100 Percent Stalled
R.G. Edmonson | Dec 14, 2009 2:34PM GMT
The
Journal of Commerce Magazine - News Story
Scanning all imported cargo containers sounded like a good idea,
until the real world intruded.
There is a serious
delay at the container screening line. Born in the aftermath of
the September 11 terror attacks, the idea of scanning 100 percent
of cargo containers coming into the country is stalled behind
technology and political reality.

ISF Update
January 2010
The
Full compliance (enforcement) date for the “10 + 2” requirements
went into effect January 26, 2010, ending the 12 month
delayed enforcement period in which CBP provided a grace period
allowing importers time to implement their ISF (10 + 2) programs.
As CBP
moves into the official enforcement mode, they hope to achieve
maximum compliance with the least amount of disruption to the
trade and to domestic ports.

Improper packing
Importers
and shippers should be aware that cargo insurance will only
cover damage to your cargo if your goods are deemed properly
packaged for international transit. We routinely see
claims denied when the insurance surveyor determines the
package was not sufficiently packaged or protected. If you
have repetitive damage claims or want to ensure proper
protection, we recommend having a professional packing company
review your packaging procedures.

own business and my phone rings, and on the other end of the line
is the logistics director for one of the world’s largest
retailers. He is in a bad mood. He has called to inform me that

Chinese New Year Is Around the Corner
Chinese
New Year
or Spring Festival is the most important of the
traditional Chinese holidays.
2010 is the year of the Tiger on the Chinese calendar.
It also means that most Chinese businesses in China, Hong Kong and
Taiwan will be closed before and after February 14, 2010 which is the
first day of Chinese New Year.
Our partner offices
in China and Taiwan will be closed from February 13th to
February 21st. Our partners in Hong Kong will be
closed from February 13th to February 16th.
Some businesses may be closed additional days.
These closures will disrupt sailing
schedules and port operations. Importers and exporters should expect
amended shipping schedules and adjust their shipment lead times
accordingly.
